Barbara Turner walked into the office of Family Health Care Amigos loaded with hand made quilts.  She was bubbling with ideas of how to use her quilting skills to serve our community.  She made lap quilts for clients who came in needing wheelchairs.  She created whimsical bibs and saddle bags for walkers and Rolators.  Barbara had assisted non-profits in Tombstone, Arizona with fundraising, and wondered if donated quilts would work as fund raisers for The Lending Shed.  By the end of the 2017 Patagonia Fall Festival, we had our answer.  So far, Barbara has made over a thousand dollars for Family Health Care Amigos with her traditional and whimsical fabric artistry.

As an on-going fundraiser, Barbara has been creating "seasonal quilts" which are available for sale at the Family Health Care Amigos office on McKeown behind the Ovens of Patagonia bakery and gift shop. These handmade quilts are usually acquired for $60 and are available for Christmas, Easter, Fourth of July and Fall/Thanksgiving.

OUR NEW PROJECT

is working with

BOULDER CREST RETREAT,

located in rural Sonoita, Arizona.  This non-profit organization was created to provide retreats  "committed to improving the physical, emotional, spiritual and economic well being of our nations' combat veterans and their family members."  Family Health Care Amigos has committed to providing 30 quilts and/or afghans to be used in gift baskets to men and women wounded in battle who attend a series of Post-traumatic Growth-based programs who are struggling with PTSD or combat-related stress.  These programs are provided at no cost  to military and veteran families.

These quilts or afghans are created with love and for each veteran to take with them at the end of the retreat as a symbol of our love and support of them going forward.
